Ocho famosas diseñadoras italianas han colaborado con Coca Cola para diseñar botellas de colección. Con motivo de la Milán Fashion Week, la empresa de refrescos más famosa del mundo, les pidió que crearán su propio diseño para participar en un proyecto benéfico, lo que se recaude de la venta de estas botellas será donado para ayudar a los afectados del terremoto acontecido el año pasado en la región italiana de Abruzzo.

Desde el pasado 25 de septiembre las botellas de la colección ‘"Tribute to fashion" están a la venta en edición limitada. Las diseñadoras que colaboraron en este proyecto fueron Angela Missoni y Rossella Jardini para Moschino, Donatella Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Anna Molinari para Bluemarine, Veronica Etro, Silvia Venturini para Fendi y Consueli Castiglioni para Marni.

The shape of the Gaudi Stool was created in the same way that Antoní Gaudi designed the structure of his churches, by making a model of hanging chains, so letting gravity determine the strongest and most logical shape for withstanding forces.

The Gaudi-stool was part of the furnistructure project.
In the Furnistructures project was researched how lightweight products can be designed.
Lightness has a lot advantages, in the use of products and their impact on the environment.
This has lead to a research into structural systems, as found in nature and architecture, and the possibilities of designing lightweight furniture using such systems.

Materials & techniques:
A thin shell made of carbon fiber deals with the compressive forces.
A beam-grid substructure resists bending of the shell.
The substructure was made using Rapid-prototyping techniques, in order to achieve the needed complexity.
The rapid-prototyped structure was then used as a mold for the carbon-fiber laminates.
This combining of these two high-tech techniques decreased costs of both of them, and made them applicable in a functional product.

Tomorrow starts the construction of the architectural installion “Pike Loop” at the Storefront of Art and Architecture (New York), together with the opening of the exhibition of the work of Swiss architects Gramazio & Kohler on Architecture and Digital Fabrication. Gramazio & Kohler shipped R-O-B, their Mobile Fabrication Unit robot, to New York to build Pike Loop, a 22m long structure built from bricks.I would really like to see these kind of fabrication techniques to be used more often, they definitely offer new possibilities to architecture and design.

I don’t often do this, but this designer, Davidi Galid, has such a way with words that I’ve just got to quote him word-for-word:

The backpack is the development of a new way of assembly that utilizes the physical attributes of the materials from which it is made. It is constructed of a three-dimensional polygon system, which is the result of released tensions and convergence of the material.

While the backpack parts are in that state, the bag gets its exterior shape, and remains so due to geometric locks as a result of the shrink. The relationship between the parts enables the opening and closing of the backpack, and determines its design and unique shape.

I wish each pack could be form-fitted perfectly to the wearer. I’ve always wanted my own shell. It seemed to me unfair that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had these really useful shells that they could store things in when I was a kid - then I realized that they probably couldn’t do that.

But now you can!

Certianly yummy, really and truly called the “Sweet Seating” collection by ice-cream lover Sander van der Haar. Made to remind the user of delectable sweet candy, these soft-serve seats and pillows have what the sugar-addict calls absolute pleasure. They’re durable and delicious. Dipped in a variety of colors and filled with cheer.

So this set of furniture is basically ready-made for the cloudy soft home of the cartoon Care Bears, but that’s not a bad thing! They’d make a lovely addition to any interior, goodness forbid the cute overload of having the whole set decorate your living room!

And you KNOW Veruca Salt has here candy-scarfing eyes on those hard-rolled-looking head softners. So scrumptious! …and kawaii ++ !!!

Just a Fraction of a Table

love clever little thangs. This is definitely a clever little thang if I do say so myself. From the fabulous mind of industrial designer Josh Tuminella comes this table by the name of “Square Root.” I bet you can tell why. It’s made out of less than 10 individual pieces and one of them is “biscuits.” Be there!

The pieces are as follows: walnut, aluminum, biscuits, glue, and 4 screws. It’s designed to be repaired easily in the case of a wild house cat or a serial murderer rampaging through your house and it “absorbs dings and nicks to display the personality and identity of the user.”

I think that last sentence is code for: gets scratches like every other table, but that’s definitely o.k. And it is! Beaten up tables, man, people pay a lot of money for that look!

Kitchens Galore

I have this obsession with kitchens. I’ve spent hours designing my dream kitchen with multiple manufacturers and have yet to put any plan into action. Call me crazy but the ratio of what I want and what I can actually afford is ridiculously large but Henrybuilt just introduced the Viola Park kitchen line promising luxury amenities at affordable costs in this economy. Let’s hit the jump, shall we?

It’s difficult to describe the Viola Park line because skies the limit when designing your own kitchen. Their website offers pretty powerful tools and options to envisage your future cook’dom. What can be said is the overall aesthetic is clean and compliments modern lines, potentially updating the whole look of your home. Home owners know kitchens can significantly increase home value so if you’re talking value vs. cost, it’s a pretty sound investment.

Enough of the sales pitch tho. I could go on and on because well, I’m a freak about designing kitchens. The modular aspect of the Viola Park line reminds me of IKEA but Henrybuilt prides itself on quality - not to say IKEA kitchens suck, no they’re actually quite good but Henrybuilt offers a touch less Scandi and a bit more refinement. It’s not as stark, know what I mean? They also seem to keep up with IKEA’s hidden compartments, unique sliding doors and all the other fun functional trinkets.

Just a’ Chillin It in the Cube

Have a seat, take a load off, enjoy some well-earned moments of peace inside your very own “Hûske.” What kinds of Hûske are there, you might ask? Well I can tell you! There’s the Rocking House, the Phone Booth, and the Mobile House. All the colors compliment each-other the way the structures themselves compliment the cubicle workday they are meant to accompany.

The most important part of working for a company is chilling. Just chilling, taking a break, taking a sip of a brewskie probably, listen to some Van Halen on the radio.

A readable amount of time is spent each day by the cubicle-sort of office person. What Jurjen Van Hulzen dubbs this is “Non-Work”. It’s not really slipping out for a cigarette. These were made for real hardcore chillin folk whose bosses are either very loving or extremely hard of seeing. What they replace is the sitting zone everyone needs where they cannot be seen. Currently this is made by the walls of the bathroom. Now it’s cute!
